"PedAlign announces agreement that could bring relief, mobility to millions of foot pain sufferers." -- San Diego, CA August 24, 2005

Podiatrists and other medical professionals will soon be able to offer their patients PedAlign orthotics with a built-in inflammation-reducing dermal patch, providing relief for as many as three million people suffering from foot pain or recovering from foot surgery.

PedAlign™ is a highly efficient, highly accurate system employed by physicians to create orthotics. It efficiently delivers high quality orthotics without the drawbacks of less advanced orthotics measurement and ordering methods.

This new treatment option will be available thanks to an exclusive agreement between Maxmed Technologies, the creator of PedAlign™, and BioElectronics Corporation. BioElectronics’ ActiPatch is an FDA-approved dermal patch with an embedded, battery-operated microchip that delivers continuous pulses of electromagnetic energy for relief of inflammation, enhancing the healing of soft tissue injuries. Under the terms of the agreement, ActiPatch will be inserted into specifically designed PedAlign™ heel pain-relieving orthotics.  Podiatrists and other medical professionals prescribing PedAlign™ orthotics will be able to participate in product evaluation studies for relief of heel pain.

The agreement will be a benefit for patients and practitioners alike.

Persons suffering from foot maladies – often elderly or diabetic patients – gain the ‘gift of mobility’ from PedAlign’s electronically measured, podiatrist-prescribed orthotics while obtaining relief from pain as well as expedited healing from the Actipatch.

By utilizing these highly effective, technology-based solutions, physicians are able to help their patients more effectively, maximizing the business side of their practices and markedly increasing patient satisfaction.  With a potential market of more than three million patients who stand to benefit from the melding of the two technologies, participating physicians could see a substantial surge in revenues.

Maxmed Technologies CEO Thomas Pichler lauded the advantage for podiatrists and the resultant benefits to patients.

“This is a breakthrough development in orthotics therapy” Pichler stated. “PedAlign was founded out of the increasing need to simplify the orthotics ordering and management process at podiatrist’s offices.  With a mission to increase physicians’ revenues and productivity by leveraging technology to prescribe and manage the highest quality orthotics, this new device is another example of how PedAlign customers can bring the latest breakthroughs in medicine to their patients and stay at the forefront of their discipline.”

“Most custom orthotics today are dispensed to relief pain from plantar fascitis,” he added.  “Treating this painful and mobility-limiting condition with a combination of orthotics and a pulsed electromagnetic field can literally change the lives of millions of patients and will change the foot therapy marketplace.”
